View the Newcastle Collection by Turning The Pages

Turning the Pages is an award-winning interactive programme developed by the British Library which allows users to virtually 'turn' pages, zoom-in on high-quality digitised images and read or listen to explanatory notes and music.

Turning the Pages allows many more pages to be viewed and enjoyed than the one or two pages which can be displayed in a glass case and, most importantly, does not damage the original volume in the process.

Selected pages from twelve texts have been digitised:

  • The Avison Workbook,
  • The Howdy and the Upgetting
  • Gibsone’s Conches
  • Gray’s Chorographia
  • Albumasar de Magnis
  • The Boke named the Royall
  • England’s Grievance Discovered
  • The Fables of Aesop
  • A General History of Quadrupeds
  • A History of British Birds in two volumes. Volume 1 Land Birds and volume 2 Water Birds
  • Green Grow the Rashes O

These showcase the breadth and depth of the collections held by Newcastle City Libraries which are available for all to enjoy.
